Suburb Pages That Rank: How Adelaide Service Businesses Can Show Up in Every Area They Serve

How to show Google, and customers, that you really work in Prospect, Burnside or Marion, without falling into the copy-paste trap.

Website structure with an Electrician service page linking to Prospect, Norwood and Burnside suburb pages, and no copy-paste pages

If you’re a plumber in Unley, you probably don’t only want work in Unley. You’d happily take jobs in Goodwood, Prospect, Burnside or Marion. But when someone in Prospect searches “plumber Prospect”, Google tends to show businesses that are close by or clearly connected to Prospect.

Suburb pages, sometimes called location pages or service area pages, are one of the best ways to show Google, and customers, that you really do work in an area. Done badly, though, they can do more harm than good. This guide shows the difference.

What is a suburb page?

A suburb page is a page on your website about your service in a specific area, such as “Electrician in Prospect” or “Physio for Norwood residents”. It sits alongside your main service pages and helps you appear for searches that include that suburb.

For Adelaide businesses that travel to customers, such as trades, cleaners, mobile groomers and home services, suburb pages are especially useful. Your Google Business Profile can only show one location, but your website can show every area you genuinely serve.

The copy-paste trap

The most common mistake is creating dozens of pages that are identical apart from the suburb name: “We’re the best electrician in Prospect”, “We’re the best electrician in Norwood”, and so on.

Google treats this as a spam practice it calls doorway abuse. Its own examples include having multiple pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page, and creating substantially similar pages that are closer to search results than a clearly defined, browseable hierarchy.

In plain English: if a page only exists to rank and doesn’t give the reader anything new, it’s a problem. Thin, copied suburb pages can drag down how Google sees your whole website.

What makes a suburb page useful

The test is simple: would someone living in that suburb find this page more helpful than your general service page? To pass, each page needs things that are genuinely specific to that area.

Include

Example for “Electrician in Prospect”

Real work you’ve done there

“Rewired a 1920s bungalow off Prospect Road” with photos, with the owner’s permission

Local knowledge

The kinds of homes and common issues you see in the area

Reviews from that suburb

A real review from a Prospect customer

Practical details

How quickly you can usually get there, which nearby suburbs you also cover

Answers to local questions

FAQs a Prospect resident would actually ask

A clear way to book

Phone, form and WhatsApp button

If you can’t fill most of that table for a suburb yet, don’t build the page yet.

How many suburb pages should you have?

Fewer, better pages beat many thin ones. A good approach for most Adelaide businesses:

  1. Start with three to five suburbs where you already have the most customers or the most work.
  2. Add a new page only when you have something real to put on it: a project, a review, local knowledge.
  3. Group smaller areas into a regional page if needed, such as “Electrician in Adelaide’s Eastern Suburbs”, covering Norwood, Kensington, St Peters and Burnside together.

A simple suburb page structure

Here’s a structure that works for most service businesses:

  1. Heading: your service + the suburb, such as “Electrician in Prospect”
  2. Opening paragraph: who you help in this area and what you do, in two or three sentences
  3. Local work: one or two recent jobs nearby, with photos
  4. Services you offer there: linked to your main service pages
  5. A local review
  6. Nearby suburbs you also cover: linked to their pages, if they exist
  7. Local FAQs: three or four real questions
  8. Call to action: phone, form and WhatsApp

Connect your suburb pages to the rest of your site

Suburb pages work best as part of a clear structure, not floating on their own:

  • Link to them from an “Areas we serve” section on your main location or service page
  • Link each one back to your main service pages
  • Link between neighbouring suburbs where it helps the reader
  • Add the same suburbs as service areas in your Google Business Profile, so your website and profile agree (our local SEO guide shows how)

Frequently asked questions

Will suburb pages get me penalised?

Not if they’re genuinely useful. Pages that are copies with the suburb name swapped are the risk. Pages with real local work, reviews and knowledge are exactly what Google wants.

Sometimes, especially if it’s close to you. But a useful suburb page makes it much clearer to Google, and customers, that you work there.

No. Your profile name must be your real business name. Use service areas and your website to show where you work.
